We live in a diverse world. The rules by which people communicate are very different and often poorly understood.

Our TEAM tool is a fast, low-cost method to bring this information to people in a simple, but powerful format. Myers-Briggs® is more in-depth, but we find it too complex for people to easily grasp, especially if it’s embedded in a training session. People grasp the TEAM concept in minutes and can immediately put it to use on the job.

We use it in nearly every leadership, supervisory and people skills program we teach.

The power in this model is that it illuminates why people, who don’t seem to be difficult people, do these unpleasant or confusing things at work or at home. People begin to see new interpretations of behavior and new understandings of motivators.

Based on this model, we believe there are no universal motivators, no “best” ways to communicate. Our response to all these, is that “it depends” on people’s TEAM style (and other factors). Instead of making life more complicated, the TEAM model is so easy it actually makes life simpler.

A real life example:

A secretary came to one of our TEAM programs and later reported that it provided her the key to work more effectively with her boss. She said the secret was to be "mean" to her boss.

Upon further discussion it turned out that the secretary was an "M", the boss a "T", and being "mean" meant "only telling her boss what the boss needed to know, not asking how the boss was doing, or sharing any personal news from the office. To the boss, this was being perfect, to the secretary it felt "mean".

Her comment was - "Who would want to live like that?" The answer - People with the T style!
